so my sweet infant daughter has been diagnosed with erb's palsy, a brachial plexus injury that occurred during her delivery, which has caused her left arm to be partially paralyzed. many children do recover partial function so we are hopeful. she will need intensive physical therapy and if she still has significant deficits at 3-4 months, then surgery to try and re-attach or graft onto the damaged nerves.
she is otherwise healthy and alert and gaining weight normally so i know we should still be grateful for her overall health but it is hard not to grieve a little for her injury.
i just hope and pray that she can recover enough function to do what she wants in life.

Hugs your way! I are thinking good thoughts for you and your family.

I've been meaning to post this but haven't been able to get around to it. Anyway, when I was in high school there was a very talented and popular gal named Paula. I don't think she had the same palsy as your daughter has, but she had some sort of birth defect that made her right hand kind of tiny and balled up and pretty much useless. I only knew Paula when I was in grades 10-12, so I don't know how it was for her growing up, but she was a magnificent illustrator and craftsperson, and nothing stopped her from achieving her dreams.
I'm sorry your daughter has to go through this. I'm sorry you have to suffer by proxy for her right now. But I am confident that, which you and your husband and your family to support her, she will grow up happy and healthy and will be able to do what she wants in life.
Sending strength, love, and positive thoughts your way.
